AEW Media Conference Call Highlights

Earlier today, All Elite Wrestling president Tony Khan hosted a media conference call before the company’s All Out pay-per-view Saturday night, discussing topics ranging from the upcoming show to the company’s relationship with the NWA.

Here are some of the highlights from Thursday’s call:

  •  The FTW Title will be treated completely different from the TNT and World Championship Titles. Khan says that he has a lot in store for the title in the near future
  • Khan says the reason behind the upcoming Big Swole v. Britt Baker match taking place on the Buy-In Pre-Show is to get people to want to pay for the entire show. He calls back to the original Double or Nothing having major stars like “Hangman” Adam Page and MJF on the Buy-In
  • The Swole v. Baker match will be a cinematic match due to Baker still recovering from her injuries
  • Khan says the working relationship between AEW and NWA is the extent of the relationship between Khan and NWA president Billy Corgan. He said that bringing in Thunder Rosa to challenge Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s Championship made sense for both sides
  • There aren’t any plans to use other NWA talents in the future
  • Khan says that surprises don’t get out due to having a small circle, crediting the trustworthy people in the front office
  • Khan promises “a lot more surprises ahead in the upcoming weeks”
  • Khan says that he can’t comment on recent free-agent Brock Lesnar’s status
  • Khan believes that All Out will be the best wrestling show since the pandemic started
  • “I thought Double or Nothing kicked the crap out of Wrestlemania”
  • Attendance at All Out will be closer to 15 percent at Daily’s Place
  • Khan says the main priority with COVID protocols was to keep the staff and crew safe, implementing a testing policy in May and using The Tonight Show’s method of putting their crew in the stands
  • Khan mentions that the Dynamite after All Out will have some big surprises
  • The Broken Rules match between Matt Hardy and Sammy Guevara will be a mix of a last man standing match and loser leaves town match for Hardy
  • MJF “may be the future of this company”
  • The second AEW TNT show will not be AEW Dark, hoping to have the new show on the air by the end of 2020 while acknowledging there is a lot of work to be done
  • Khan says the All Out card hasn’t changed much from what was originally planned
  • Thunder Rosa was recommended to Khan by Kenny Omega

All Out will air live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL this Saturday at 8 p.m. The Buy-In Pre-Show will kickoff at 7 p.m.
