Atlanta Falcons Blows a Lead… Again

Oh no, the Atlanta Falcons blew a 20-point lead on Sunday—tell me you haven’t heard that before. A team that’s full of promise and talent that can’t seem to get out of their own way.

The Falcons were already coming off a poor performance in week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks—especially on the defensive side of the ball and had their work cut out for them this past Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Offensively, the Falcons looked awesome and the defense forced the Cowboys into four first half turnovers that allowed Atlanta to jump out to a 20-point lead and would eventually be up 29-10 at the half.

Dallas would fight their way back into the game to close the lead to five and as an Atlanta Falcons fan you had to start thinking: “oh no, not again.” However, Matt Ryan would keep the lead for Atlanta being up by nine with under five minutes to go. Then the unthinkable happened.

The Cowboys and Dak Prescott scores a touchdown to cut the lead to two, and inexplicably the Falcons let the ball roll 10 yards on the ensuing onside kick for Dallas to recover and get the game-winning field goal to score 10 points in two minutes.

Atlanta now 0-2 for the first time since 2007 are in trouble and let’s just be honest—this team has not recovered since Super Bowl 51. Dan Quinn who was supposed to have the defense improve to help the high-powered offense be balanced has only finished in the top-10 in defense once in his six seasons and is currently last this season.

The window has passed on this team and I think it is time to blow it up. This loss is right up there with the 28-3 lead blown in the Super Bowl. There’s no way you lose a lead like this where all you had to do was fall on the ball to secure a victory. Atlanta cannot afford another slow start to the season like they have done in the past couple of years, and if the Falcons can’t turn things around, Quinn may not make it through the end of the season.
