Big Blue Report: Giants In Camp Notes

With camp officially on the way, the New York Giants could be a wild card team in the NFC.

Is being an unknown and under the radar that bad of a thing?

With a new head coach in Joe Judge, a second year QB in Daniel Jones, a franchise running back and from a report from camp a very detailed oriented offensive coordinator in Jason Garrett.

So the question becomes, Why Not?

Why can’t the New York Football Giants come out and make the 2020 season a playoff year?

The team has stated that Joe Judge has taken a “Patriot Like” approach to this year’s camp. Little notable things which were noted were no numbers on player jerseys, coaches running laps wth players just to name a few little changes in East Rutherford.

Judge stated that the coaches and players are a unit and everyone is being held accountable on and off the field. Now the team which has been one of the worst since the 2017 seems to be on the upside.

“I’m pleased with the way they work right now” said Judge. “They come to work every day with a lot of enthusiasm and urgency. They’re very coachable. These are guys that are very in-tune to the details that we’re preaching within our program. I’ve seen a lot of comradery being built through the competition on the field, as well as the interaction off the field in the meeting rooms, in the dining hall and the locker room. You’re starting to see a lot of the personalities really start to come out. It’s a fun group to work with. I love coming to work every day”

The word that has been preached time and time again has been culture. Judge has been preaching change since the moment of arrival to NY.

Change even for the good is different and even difficult. Gone are Eli Manning, Zak DeOssie, Aldrick Rosas, and Nate Solder.

The most notable change in camp this year was the absence of long time Giants QB Eli Manning who was absent from camp for the first time in 16 seasons. Manning retired at the end of the last season leaving the famous line. “Once a Giant, Always a Giant, and Only a Giant.”

Last season, Manning was benched in favor of rookie QB Daniel Jones. Jones who showed signs of greatness through the year, credits a lot of his success to Manning.

Jones is ready for a new season with a fresh start and a new beginning which is now considered his team with a new culture. Daniel was asked about his preparation for camp and his excitement for the new system on a recent media call and spoke openly about his condition.

“I feel good” said Jones. I feel like I’m as strong as I’ve been. I feel like I’m in good shape. I was in Charlotte for most of the offseason and training there. I wanted to get stronger and wanted to gain some weight for what that does for every part of my game, standing in the pocket, running when I need to, and obviously throwing the ball as efficiently as I can using my strength, my lower body. Each piece of that was part of the goal of the offseason in my training.”

Jones down played any Eli questions out of respect for the Giants great. At this point, Jones is ready to create his own legacy in a new system. Culture would be the word he is looking for as the new look Giants prep for the new season.
