Big Blue Report: Is it a Rebuild or Reboot?

Hey all Welcome back to the Big Blue Report. I have been MIA on the Giants for a bit but we have revamped the format of the Big Blue Report and will be having a weekly podcast dedicated to the Giants starting next week. Let’s get started with all the news and notes !!

BIG BLUE CAST

The Big Blue Cast podcast will be hosted by Randy Zellea and co-hosted by Danielle McCartan and Bill Keagle. The two will rotate as co-hosts as we welcome in the beat writers, players and insiders to discuss everything Giants. Showtime is Wednesday nights starting 8pm.

First show will be this Wednesday night with the announcement of our guest on Monday night!

THE END OF THE JPP ERA…OR ERROR!

With a shock to everyone, the Giants moved one of the few remaining players from their last Super Bowl team by trading Jason Pierre-Paul and a fourth round pick to the Bucs for a third and their fourth round pick. If you are saying this sounds like a salary dump, you are 100% correct.

I will never discount the contributions that JPP made to the Giants during his time here but when it wasn’t about the injuries,it became about the money. That became his thing in New York, the money. After finally getting that large contract last season, a lot of insiders, fans, and people around the Giants felt he didnt deliver in many aspects someone of that contact level should.

Not that players should be anxious to speak after a loss but JPP seemed bothered by the responsibility. He was loved by his teammates but anytime a team decides they are going to go in a different direction, big contracts are usually the first to be moved.

JPP was a spark both in the press, on and off  the field for his Giant tenure. He will be missed as he did it his way.

CHANGING THE LINE…

When the 2018 campaign begins, Eli Manning will have a list of new faces to guard him. Gone is Bobby Hart (waived at the end of the year), Weston Richberg (signed with 49ers), Justin Pugh (signed with Arizona), and DJ Fluker (signed with Seakhawks). Signed is Nate Solder and Patrick Omameh to go along with John Jerry and Erick Flowers and Brett Jones.

This has been the main issue of the offense since the teams last Super Bowl run. GM Dave Gettlemen stated during his first press conference that the offensive line is the priority of the off season.

Two years ago Jerry Reese spent money on the defensive side of the football and landed them in the top three defense in the NFL. Though the success felt on the one side developed discontent on the other as the Giants offense failed to score 20 points or more for long stretch of games.

During last off season many questions were raised on why the line was not addressed and Reese never really gave us or anyone a real answer.  Almost two season later, Reese is gone and the issues are addressed so far.

THE SECOND PICK OF THE DRAFT…..

What do you do with the second pick? QB? RB? O-Line? D-Line?

Do you draft a QB only to trade him?

Do you get your QB of the future?

Where does Davis Webb fit in with all of this?

How about Barkley? Can he be the game changing RB the Giants need?

Multiple Sources state that the Giants will be hosting Barkley, and the top QB prospects this weekend.

The Giants will be looking to make some sort directional decision by the beginning of next week.
