Darren Till Avoids Surgery; Eyeing Hermansson/Cannonier

Earlier this week, middleweight contender Darren Till confirmed on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show that he will not need surgery to repair his injured knee.

Till laid out his rehab plan to Ariel as follows:

Six weeks in a brace and then physio after,” he said. “So in six weeks Ariel if I’m fine, OK, I wanna fight as soon as possible… ASAP.”

‘The Gorilla’ is about two weeks removed from his fight with former middleweight champ Robert Whittaker. It was early on in the second round of that fight when Whittaker threw a knee stomp which damaged the knee of Till.

As for who he wants to face first when he comes back, Till had this to say:

“Cannonier… I would love to fight Cannonier,” he declared. “But he’s booked,” Ariel replied. “I don’t care, I’d stop him,” replied Till.

He went on to also mention Jack Hermansson and Derek Brunson as two possible opponents who are both coming off of recent wins.

Doctors usually recommend four to eight weeks of physical therapy for a knee strain, sprain, or small tear. Expect ‘The Gorilla’ to be sidelined for 10 to 14 weeks, making a return to the octagon before the end of the year a real possibility.

Till has lost three out of his last four bouts, but the southpaw from Liverpool is still brimming with confidence and quite eager to get back in there against elite competition.

Till expects to be champion someday.
