Game Preview: Giants and Cardinals

With the New York Giants sitting at a dismal 2-4 record through the first six weeks, the team is looking to bounce back at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

After coming off a tough loss in New England, rookie quarterback Daniel Jones was able to learn a lot going into this week.

“I think a number of things,” Jones told Back Sports Page.  “I think taking care of the ball is the first thing you think about, and just taking advantage of the opportunities to make plays.”

The hardest part, for any quarterback is when all of your offensive weapons are out with injury, and that is the issue Jones and the Giants have run into.

“I think we’re going to take it day by day,” Jones said about running back Saquon Barkley getting back into the fold for week 7. “I know he’s been working hard, so we’ll see. Hopefully we’ll have him out there.”

Giants wide receiver Golden Tate III is just as excited as ever to get out on the field and play.

“I think we’re just excited to get back on the field and get that bad taste out of our mouth from last Thursday night.” Tate said. “We have another opportunity, we are back at home, we’re excited.” when asked about looking forward to the much weaker Arizona defense compared to New England’s.

Alec Ogletree, linebacker for the Giants, had some words to say about Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray.

“Kyler can run all over the field and make it very difficult for us,” said Ogletree about facing Arizona. “So, it was a challenge last week, and this is another challenge for us as a defense, as a team, to go against them. It’s very hard on a defense when you can’t keep a guy contained and he’s able to break the containment and stretch you down the field and force guys on the back end to cover for a long time.”

Head coach of the Giants, Pat Shurmur had some comments on the Cardinals as a team.

“They can be very explosive on offense.” said Shurmer. “They certainly have good players on defense. I think it’s fair to say they’re coming together as a team. They’re playing better and better each week, so it’s going to be a big challenge for us.”

If the Giants manage to get back to near full-strength with having tight end Evan Engram and Barkley out there, it is fair to say this will be a dynamic matchup. Jones needs to return to his preseason form of “Danny Dimes” if he wants to keep up with the Cardinals’ rookie quarterback Kyler Murray, who has been improving game after game. However, it appears the Giants don’t plan on going down without a fight.
