Mavericks Make A Big Move

With Dwight Powell out from an Achilles injury during the Los Angeles Clippers game, the Dallas Mavericks had to act quick to fill a much needed center position. Three short days later after Powell’s injury, Dallas traded their 2020 second-round pick for center Willie Cauley-Stein from the Golden State Warriors.

Cauley-Stein is shooting 62% in the paint this season. The 26 year-old is averaging 7.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks.

With this trade, Golden State saves $5.66 million on their luxury tax bill, so it is a win-win for both teams. This move allows the Warriors to have more space to get new players for next season, which is much needed for the Bay Area. It was also essential that Dallas found a new center, especially after losing Powell to an unfortunate injury at an unfortunate time. Not to mention the Mavericks get Cauley-Stein at a low cost.

The Mavericks won’t have to wait long to find out just how much their new center will help. On Saturday they will match up with All-Star center Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz, who happen to be the hottest team in the NBA. If Cauley-Stein is in uniform and ready to go, it will give Mavs fans a good taste of what’s in store for the center position for the foreseeable future.
