With the NBA season almost in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look at the best City Edition jerseys from the Eastern Conference. No. 5: Detroit Pistons

Kicking off the list, I say, Detroit basketball, stand up! If it’s not clear, the Detroit Pistons have me pulled in with their fusion of retro and modern-day. This year’s fit pays homage to the Bad Boys era, when the team won its second championship in 1990. As the NBA.com article about the jersey notes,
“This year’s uniforms are colored in ‘bone’, paying homage to the team’s Bad Boy mentality and the club’s second title team in 1990.”
While the bone-color shade has been a flop in another sport, it works here. Pairing it with the orange numbering and paneling gives it a very nice contrast. It’s also proven to be a successful reminder of days gone by for a team that has undergone a major turnaround.
No. 4: Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers come in fourth on the list. The Sixers also blend retro with modern-day. However, their City Jersey from this year goes a little bit further back in time than the Pistons. This Philly fit salutes the Sixers’ original home, the Spectrum Arena. It’s basically the 2021-22 City Jersey, but on a white backdrop instead of blue. So, in that aspect, it does see a bit of a hit. But it’s still a top-level jersey.
No. 3: Charlotte Hornets
Coming in third on the list is the Charlotte Hornets. Now, I will admit that Charlotte is my second favorite NBA team, so there is a little bit of a bias here. However, this jersey accentuates the history of North Carolina’s Queen City quite well. The mint color backdrop salutes the original US mint and coin factory, with black and gold saluting the first ever American gold rush. It’s not the first time the Hornets have used a mint city jersey. Mint was the primary backdrop color for their city’s fit in the 2020-21 season.
No. 2: Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks hold the second position on the list of the best Eastern Conference City Jerseys. Since 2015, the Bucks have incorporated the blue water from the Great Lakes into their color scheme. That color salutes Milwaukee, touching Lake Michigan and three rivers that run through the city: the aptly named Milwaukee River, the Menomonee River, and the Kinnickinnic River.
Not only that, but it also has ties to Native American heritage. As the NBA.com article on the jersey notes, “In the Ojibwe language, ominowakiing (or Milwaukee) means ‘Gathering Place [by the water].'” A very fitting tribute to a well-deserving city.
No. 1: Toronto Raptors

When NBA fans think of a franchise’s City Jersey, what do they think of most? How can it blend components of modern and history? This year, no jersey encapsulates that better than the Toronto Raptors. The old-school raptor logo. The tribute to Mr. Air Canada himself, Vince Carter. The old-school design and how well it meshes with the current jersey. This is, quite frankly, in the running for one of the best City Jerseys of all time.
