Remember when Bill Goldberg won 173 straight matches to start his WCW career? Long before Asuka was even a thought, Bret Hart’s biggest adversary was laying out wrestlers left and right. Additionally, he was spearing them and giving them jackhammers, making him arguably the biggest figure in professional wrestling.
Well, that same Asuka has surpassed the legendary WCW star. The women’s superstar has been undefeated for three years, including an NXT Women’s title reign for over 500 days. That doesn’t sit well with Goldberg, who seems to want the spotlight, even after retiring. Furthermore, he expressed his displeasure on Real Talk with Mike Burke, talking about being “surpassed” by Asuka.
They already did. Some girl at WWE. They did it on purpose. I have nothing against the girl, by any means, but yeah. The whole WWE experience. I was part of WCW when we were kicking their aass in the Monday Night Wars. I didn’t know what was going on at the time, I was just on one of the sides. Now, one side dissolves and the other one consumes everything, so they can treat everyone and everything the way they want.
Bill Goldberg Gets A Valid Response From Asuka
Of course, the Japanese wrestler couldn’t let this slide, posting about Goldberg’s remarks on social media.
Goldberg’s comments about me are all over the news right now. But honestly, I’m not bothered by it at all. What he said came from his own perspective, and that’s fine. So there’s really no need to make such a big deal out of it. Listen to my philosophy. It’s not about what I accomplish. It’s about what I try to create. Philosophy and vision, that’s where the real value is. I don’t find meaning in anything without beauty. I’ve achieved every record, every title, but those are just milestones. What really matters is opening a new era. Creating the moment that separates Before Asuka and After Asuka. Having the power to change an era. That’s where true value and beauty exist. I don’t chase records or championships. They’re the ones that come to me. There’s not enough art in this world.
It brings up a valid point about Asuka. She’s trying to create art as she sees fit. Honestly, she’s doing an excellent job. Just look at her accomplishments since stepping into the WWE.
- Three-time WWE Women’s Champion
- WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion
- 2020 Women’s Money In The Bank winner
- 2018 Women’s Royal Rumble Winner
That’s not even scratching the surface regarding where she stands in Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Being ranked the best women’s wrestler in 2017 and the Woman of the Year are high honors.
Why Goldberg Needs To Step Back
Let’s be honest. Bill Goldberg has gotten stale with his recent feuds. It’s not just Asuka that he’s clashed with. It’s also been the infamous Bret Hart feud, where the WWE Hall of Famer publicly expressed his disdain for his former co-worker.
Additionally, fans should start noticing that trend. It further drives the point that Goldberg isn’t necessarily looking out for anyone other than himself. It conclusively proves that the former WCW star isn’t likable as a public figure.
If Asuka and Bret Hart are raising a stink about a particular wrestler, that should raise alarm bells. That’s something that a dominant star like Goldberg shouldn’t subject himself to.
