Daniel Jones: Home Sweet Home

Daniel Jones Giving Back To The Community

This past Sunday, Daniel Jones hosted his first-ever youth football camp in the town he lives in of Hoboken, New Jersey. There was a total of around 500 kids that signed up to participate in the event, ranging from kids going into kindergarten to kids going into high school. The event took place at Hoboken High School. Out of the 500, Jones personally invited about 50 from Far Rockaway and Harlem Giants, who the Giants work with closely.

Jones wanted to host his first-ever camp to give back to the community, especially in his town of Hoboken. He also loves spending time with the kids.

I think it’s just a cool opportunity to spend some time with some kids and here in Hoboken, where I live, and yeah, it’s a special opportunity to spend time with kids. So it’s fun to be here.”

There was no specific football camp that he remembers doing. However, he remembers doing multiple different sports camps with his brother Bates. One of them in particular was a Sean May basketball camp in their hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. He also mentioned it was a big deal and they would go every year.

Jones was ready to chase and throw to the kids as he was enjoying himself and was with the kids nearly the whole time since he arrived. To prepare, he made sure he got his nine hours of sleep.

Knee Is Fine

Jones had no limitations in terms of his knee after coming off a torn ACL while playing with the kids. He has spent most of the summer so far in New Jersey rehabbing his knee and offseason workouts. He has been fully cleared for football activities and will be a full participant in training camp, which opens Wednesday for the Giants.

From being at the event and personally watching him throw, he not only looks healthier, but he even looks stronger. A week before his camp, a tweet went viral of his offseason workout and how it is evident he gained muscle.

New Teammates, New Year

After free agency and the draft, Jones now has two new teammates on the offensive line, two pass catchers, and a running back to get to know. Starting with the offensive line, the Giants signed offensive guard Jon Runyan Jr. and offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor. The two hope to boost the offensive line and protect Jones, which has not happened in his career. The Giants were sacked 85 times last season which was the second most all-time in one season. Jones needs to gain chemistry with his new offensive line.

His new pass catchers are first-round pick wide receiver Malik Nabers and fourth-round pick tight end Theo Johnson. Both are expected to be big parts of the offense as Nabers talent-wise is expected to be the best Giants wide receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. Johnson is Darren Waller’s replacement and one of the more athletic tight ends in the league. Johnson will have to beat out Daniel Bellinger for the starting spot.

Daniel Jones as the veteran and leader of the team needs to mentor the young guys. He also needs to get to know their play style and their favorite types of routes.

In addition to the rookies, Jones has a new running back after the Giants signed Devin Singletary. Singletary and Jones will also have to get to know each other and gain some chemistry together.

Duke Family Affair

At the camp, Jones was joined by his mom, sister, and brother. Three of the four Jones kids played collegiate sports at Duke University. Becca, the oldest child, was the lone non-Duke athlete playing four seasons of field hockey at Davidson College. Daniel is the second oldest, and played in three of his four seasons at Duke. Two of his seasons as captain.

Bates, as the second youngest, was fortunate enough to play basketball at Davidson, where his sister Becca went, and then transferred to Duke. Ruthie is the youngest child who spent four seasons as a goalkeeper for the Blue Devils soccer team. The Jones kids are all very athletic and talented to be able to play Division I sports. However, due to being selected sixth overall in the NFL Draft back in 2019, Daniel might be the most athletic and talented out of the bunch.
