The first week of Dana White’s Contender Series was filled with vicious knockouts and one top prospect with a bright future in the UFC. With four of the five fights ending by knockout. Season 8 of the contender series is off to a hot start. Now, let’s go over a few fighters that were awarded week one contracts in DWCS.
Lone’er Kavanagh
In the night’s first fight, Kavanagh got an absolute vicious knockout against An Tuan Ho, an excellent prospect with a ton of power. With this being the first fight of the night and hearing the background of these two fighters, everyone knew there was going to be a stoppage in this fight. Besides having a great chin and power in his hands. Kavanagh displayed great movement and could set up great shots on the feet. Kavanagh will be a fun prospect to watch in the UFC.

Jose Miguel Delgado
Coming into the night with having a finish in every one of his wins, Jose stepped in on short notice and showed the well-rounded fighter that he is. Jose also showed he has a great chin and can eat some big shots in a fight. As Dana White said, “he’s the whole package”. And that is exactly what all of us fans felt after that fight. At 26 years old, Jose will be a great addition to the Featherweight division.

Bruno Lopes
While it’s difficult for 31-year-old prospects to make it through DWCS. Bruno Lopes was able to showcase enough for a contract. From losing on the Contender series last year to getting a knockout this year, Lopes is a great athletic boxer who also has great submission wins from the LFA. Lopes will be an intriguing Light Heavyweight prospect.
Mansur Abdul-Malik
For the main event, Mansur did not disappoint, and he has a very bright future in the UFC. With a second-round knockout, Mansur displayed a lot of power in his striking and power in his elbows. Fighting out of MMA Masters in Miami, Florida, Mansur has all the tools out of that gym to elevate his game. Also, he has a great wrestling background, which will pay dividends as he climbs the ranks. Watch out for Mansur when he makes his first UFC fight in the future.
