Over the past 20 years, all of us Syracuse fans have been complacent as a program. Generally, we receive two or three stars every year, with the occasional four-star recruit. Aside from having the 50th- or 60th-ranked recruiting class, and hoping for a Pinstripe Bowl game. Syracuse was in dire need of a revival of the program. And Fran Brown was the answer.
What Fran Brown has done
Since his introduction over a year ago, Fran has brought new life to the program. In his first year, he transformed Syracuse into a football powerhouse, becoming a top-25 team, going 10-3, and winning the Holiday Bowl against Washington State. Being from New Jersey, Fran Brown has been recognized as one of the best recruiters in the country while working with Georgia. But he was never considered a head coach around the league until he got his chance with Syracuse. As soon as he was hired, Fran introduced a new saying, D.A.R.T. (Detailed, Accountable, Relentless, Tough), which energized the entire city. From bringing in ex-Ohio State QB Kyle McCord and making him the nation’s passing yards leader.
Fran also resized the whole roster in one year, with him saying, “Big people beat up little people.” In addition to targeting former four- and five-star recruits in the transfer portal, Fran is always pursuing recruits who have offers from top schools in the country. With Jeff Nixon as Offensive Coordinator and Elijah Robinson as Defensive Coordinator being his first hires. The coaching staff has been operating smoothly with very few issues. Despite the ease with which players can transfer through the transfer portal, this entire staff excels at elevating and developing each player’s true potential, a spectacle that Syracuse fans rarely witness.
How does the Future look
Earlier this month, Fran Brown was able to land the highest-rated prospect in 20 years in 5-star WR Calvin Russell out of Florida. Calvin became the third-ever five-star to commit to Syracuse Football. Fran might not have the most NIL money to work with or the best state to recruit players from. But the way he can connect with players and build a relationship with them has paid him dividends, and it will continue to bring him success in the future. With a whole community rallying behind him and a mindset of getting the program back to its glory days. There is little to hold him back. For more articles, click here.
