Giants vs. Chargers: Can Jaxson Dart Spark a Turnaround?

The New York Giants enter Week 4 searching for answers — and their first win of the 2025 season. At 0-3, the pressure is mounting as they prepare to host the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers (3-0) at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, September 28. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

A Historic Matchup, but an Uphill Battle

This will be the 14th regular season meeting between the two franchises, with the Giants trailing the series 5–8. The last time these teams squared off was back in December 2021, when the Chargers rolled to a 37–21 win in Los Angeles. While the rivalry is not as storied as some of the Giants’ NFC East clashes, the Chargers have consistently been a tough matchup.

The Giants have only won three of the seven games played against the Chargers at home, and they’ll need to lean on the energy of the MetLife crowd to tilt momentum in their favor.

By the Numbers

  • Overall Giants Record: 724-666-34

  • Home Record: 402-310-17

  • Record vs. AFC Opponents: 152-147-5

  • September Record: 122-127-5

On paper, New York’s history shows resilience, but their record in September has been middling. Against an AFC opponent on a hot streak, the Giants will need to break trends to avoid starting 0-4.

Jaxson Dart Era Begins

The story of the game — and perhaps the season — will be the debut of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Drafted to be the future of the franchise, Dart now steps into the spotlight earlier than many expected. For a team desperate to generate consistency on offense, his play could determine whether the Giants claw their way back into contention or fall deeper into frustration.

All eyes will be on offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, whose play-calling will be crucial in setting Dart up for success. Expect short, high-percentage passes early to build confidence, before testing the Chargers’ secondary with downfield looks.

The Harbaugh Effect

On the other sideline, the Chargers are riding the momentum of new life under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Since taking over, his team has embodied toughness, discipline, and execution — hallmarks of his previous stops in San Francisco, Stanford, and Michigan. At 3-0, Los Angeles has already shown it can go toe-to-toe with the NFL’s best.

What’s at Stake

For the Giants, it’s about more than just one win. Starting 0-4 would put them in a historically difficult hole — very few NFL teams recover to make the playoffs after such a start. But if Dart can energize the offense, and if Shane Bowen’s defense can find ways to slow down a balanced Chargers attack, the Giants could make a statement that their season isn’t over yet.

For the Chargers, the mission is simple: keep the streak alive, stay atop the AFC West, and continue proving they are legitimate contenders.

Prediction

This Week 4 matchup has the feel of a crossroads. Will it be the beginning of the Jaxson Dart era in New York, or another reminder of how far the Giants still have to climb? Either way, Sunday at MetLife promises to be a defining moment for both franchises.
