The New York Yankees have demoted infielder Thairo Estrada to the team’s alternate site. Estrada, who was signed by the Yankees as an international free agent in 2012, has compiled a .273 batting average over his two-year career. The 24-year-old second baseman has displayed flashes of power during his short career in the Bronx, posting a .455 slugging percentage.
To replace Estrada, the Yankees have called up outfielder Clint Frazier. Once a superstar prospect, Frazier remains a fourth or fifth outfielder option. The transaction to bring up Frazier was likely made due to the injury of Giancarlo Stanton, who is expected to be out three to four weeks.
Frazier’s involvement with New York has been marred by questionable statements and criticism about his overall demeanor. As an example, the 25-year-old corner outfielder once refused to cut his hair. His bat speed, however, and sudden explosions of power may help the club during the final two months of the season.
