Trey Hendrickson needs a new home. After coming to a contract impasse with the Cincinnati Bengals, the defensive end wants to find greener pastures with another team. Believe it or not, a frontrunner has emerged among the pack.
That team? The Las Vegas Raiders.
There are many reasons why this makes sense. For one, Maxx Crosby needs somebody on his opposing end on the defensive line. Being able to terrorize opposing quarterbacks would make the Raiders a legitimate threat, specifically in the AFC West.
When you see Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix consistently, you need two terrific defensive ends to create matchup nightmares. Why not contact the Bengals for a player who wants a new deal?
But that’s the beginning. Hendrickson brings a wealth of experience that the Raiders need defensively. Additionally, that move could be the move that gets Las Vegas over the playoff hump. Here’s why that could be the case.
Why Trey Hendrickson going to the Las Vegas Raiders makes too much sense
Career-wise, Hendrickson has had a decorated career. He has 77 career sacks and 220 combined tackles. Those are excellent numbers for a player who’s flown under the radar in the NFL.
Last season, he had 17.5 sacks and 46 combined tackles with the Cincinnati Bengals. The season before? 17.5 sacks and 43 combined tackles. Overall, he’s had excellent showings in the past two seasons. Additionally, he’s been consistent.
In a land where players like Myles Garrett, Nick Bosa, and Aidan Hutchinson get all the love, Hendrickson has been one of the most underrated players around. Additionally, he’s done it on a Bengals defense that hasn’t been the best.
Adding Hendrickson makes the Raiders much better. Moreover, Crosby has the pressure taken off him, leaving more attention on the opposing defensive end. That’s a win-win for Pete Carroll, specifically if he’s going all-in on the defensive end.
If the Raiders want to be taken seriously, getting Hendrickson is a must
For years, the Las Vegas Raiders have struggled with maintaining a winning identity. Along the way, they’ve found diamonds in the rough, including Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs. However, those pieces are gone.
Mainly, that’s because the organization’s struggled to maintain said winning identity. However, getting Hendrickson for the defensive line will do wonders for the organization in terms of winning.
Now, you take the pressure off your star defensive end. Now, you’re committing to Carroll’s defense and can take on a tough AFC conference. Most of all, you can tackle a brutal AFC West division with a defensive line ready for the job.
All these point to a trade with the Bengals making too much sense. The Raiders have nothing to lose, specifically if they wish to escape the AFC West cellar.
