WrestleCon Newark: Bringing the Wrestling Universe to the Garden State During SummerSlam Weekend

As WWE’s SummerSlam rolls into the Tri-State area, one of wrestling’s most beloved fan experiences is setting up shop just minutes from the action. WrestleCon, the fan-first convention known for blending legends, modern stars, and unforgettable moments, returns on August 1–2, 2025—this time at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott.

We sat down with WrestleCon organizer Michael Bochicchio, who gave us exclusive insight into what fans can expect from this special edition of the event, officially titled WrestleCon Newark.

A Venue Born of Hustle and Flexibility

When asked about the inspiration behind hosting WrestleCon at the Newark Airport Marriott, Bochicchio was direct: “Our event traditionally follows the WWE PLEs, so any opportunity to do an event around SummerSlam and in the Tri-State area is something we can’t turn down.”

Planning for the event started way back in October 2024. Originally, WrestleCon was targeting the American Dream Mall as the venue, but delays and lack of commitment led them to pivot. “They didn’t put a contract together for several months, kept making excuses,” Bochicchio revealed. “We found out they were waiting for Fanatics to make a decision.”

With time ticking, WrestleCon shifted its search and ultimately landed at the Marriott in Newark. “We had options in NYC and Newark. We chose Newark because of the great venue the Marriott is providing,” he shared.

Affordable, Accessible, and All About the Fans

One of the standout decisions for this year’s WrestleCon Newark was the $20 all-weekend access pass—a stark contrast to other conventions that often charge much higher fees.

“We wanted to make it affordable for everybody,” Bochicchio explained. “$20 was basically a way to just keep out people that aren’t really interested in what we do. We feel that $20 for a weekend pass allows everybody interested to attend and isn’t a financial burden for anybody bringing a family.”

Affordability doesn’t mean a lack of quality. WrestleCon Newark has once again curated a strong offering of talent, space, and exclusivity, all under one roof. Discounted hotel rooms at the Marriott ensure fans don’t need to travel far for a premium experience.

A Talent-Driven Show with a Focus on Interaction

Unlike other conventions where organizers book most of the talent, WrestleCon thrives through its vendor partnerships. “Our events are heavily driven by wrestlers and vendors. As the organizer, we actually have very little decision-making into the talent that participates,” Bochicchio admitted. “Fortunately, we have a pretty good track record, so we tend to sell out of vendor spaces quite quickly.”

This year’s event will feature a mix of AEW stars and legendary figures from wrestling’s golden eras. Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Toni Storm, and other AEW names are expected to participate alongside icons like Bret Hart, Sting, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and The Hardys.

But don’t expect panels or keynote speeches. “WrestleCon Newark is smaller than our annual, larger version. These are nothing but ‘meet and greets’ with talent,” Bochicchio clarified. “What we do better than everybody else is giving the opportunity to meet wrestlers and have a meaningful interaction with them.”

Whether it’s a selfie, a signed figure, or just a chance to share a few words with a wrestling hero, fans can expect intimate and impactful moments.

Merchandise, Memories, and More

Collectors, take note: WrestleCon Newark will include exclusive figure releases from both Major Figures and Zombie Sailor, plus a massive presence from the Highspots Superstore. These items will be limited to convention attendees, making them must-haves for serious fans.

Additionally, the E-Convention Pass grants entry to the convention floor and access to autograph and photo opportunities—many of which will feature a professional photography setup for clean, high-quality images.

Bochicchio also teased “several of the top vendors in the area,” and while this edition won’t include panels or food events, the focus remains on streamlined, high-impact fan interaction.

Part of a Bigger Wrestling Weekend

Bochicchio made it clear that WrestleCon understands its place in the larger SummerSlam weekend. “We very much understand our role during the weekend. We expect most of our attendees to go to SmackDown on Friday and at least one of the two nights of SummerSlam. Everything we do revolves around those events.”

Fans who attend WrestleCon Newark will find that it fits seamlessly into their SummerSlam experience, offering a full weekend of wrestling immersion.

Looking ahead, while there’s no immediate return date set for the Tri-State market, Bochicchio hinted that New Jersey and New York will always be on the radar. “Anytime we can run an event in the New Jersey/New York market, the fans are always so supportive. After this event, we’ll be focusing on our return to Las Vegas next April, so it’s actually the longest break we’ve had between conventions in several years.”

Final Pitch: Why WrestleCon Newark Is a Can’t-Miss

For those still deciding whether to make the trip, Bochicchio’s message is clear: “It’s affordable, it’s convenient, and it’s built around the fans. If you’ve never been to a WrestleCon, this is the perfect introduction.”

WrestleCon Newark is set to be an unforgettable part of SummerSlam weekend, delivering what fans love most—access to their favorite stars, incredible collectibles, and a tight-knit wrestling community that feels like family.
