Tommy DeVito: Giving Back To The Community

Tommy DeVito Camp

On June 28, many were gathered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey for Tommy DeVito’s second ProCamp. The camp took place from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Kids of all ages from as young as six to as old as 17 years old participated in the camp. With the camp, participants got to run and participate in football drills and games, on field instruction and interaction from New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito and others, camp t-shirt, group photo, and the opportunity to purchase VIP meet-and-greet and photo op.

120 people signed up to participate in the camp. In addition, there were many parents and spectators in the bleachers or standing on the sidelines. Some infamous people were two solid brothers in the NFL in Jason and Devin McCourty were in attendance. Jason, had a 13 year career at cornerback and played for four different teams including the New England Patriots where he won a Super Bowl in 2019. His brother, Devin, was a two-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl winner. Devin was also in the league for 13 years similarly to Jason, however, Devin spent all 13 seasons with the Patriots.

In addition to the McCourty brothers, Giants head coach Brian Daboll also showed up towards the end of the camp. Daboll lives near the area and decided to show up and see one of his players do something great for the community. DeVito still lives at home in his hometown of Cedar Grove, New Jersey as he went viral for saying his mom still cooks for him as well as doing his laundry and making his bed. Devito’s hometown of Cedar Grove is about 32 minutes away from Franklin Lakes where the event occurred.

License Plate Guy

Another person who was at DeVito’s camp and helping out was Giants super fan License Plate Guy otherwise known as Joe Ruback. Ruback has been wearing license plates to every Giants home and away game since 2000 and has grown a massive following especially with other Giants fans.

He showed up because DeVito and him are good friends and became friendly a few years ago and DeVito invited him to help coach out. He was also there for DeVito’s first ever camp last summer and was excited for this summer’s camp. Ruback mentioned how giving back to the community and helping out hundreds of kids is amazing.

License Plate Guy’s Memories & Experience

Ruback has been making tons of memories from the countless interactions with fans and rivals with the constant travelling. He has also been a part of a lot of good Giants teams as well as some not so good ones.

“ I think it’s the, it’s the meeting other giant fans on the road. You get to go to the home game and, you know, everybody’s giant. Well mostly, you know, 99% are gonna be giant fans, but on the road it’s different. You meet like crazy diehard giant fans that are gonna be there. So I think it’s a camaraderie plus, you know, seeing the team. On the road when they turn around and they’re like, oh, that guy’s here again. You know, all these years. And that’s fun too because like Tommy once told me he is like, you know, we turn around and we’re like, that’s like some loyal support right there. So all of that, all of that is fun. And plus, you know, visiting other cities and their food and culture and stuff like that, I have a really good time doing it.”

Ruback mentioned his popularity happened naturally.

“ I didn’t push anything. Social media wasn’t around when I was, you know, becoming license play guy. And then when it got here, it just helped further, you know, my fandom, um, growing your. Fandom or friendship or meeting people should become natural. Um, if you are out there trying to raise money or raise following or buy following, I just don’t understand something like that. So it’s been a long journey. I mean, I’ve been doing this probably before you were born, so, uh, uh, I love it. I’m gonna continue to do it until I can’t afford it anymore.”

Best Environments

Since he begun travelling and going to every game including overseas, License Plate Guy has experienced a lot of different atmospheres and fanbases which is pretty cool to experience. However, his two favorites on the road have been overseas and Dallas.

“I mean, nothing right now, nothing is beating, going overseas. ’cause you know, introducing to football and seeing since 2016, the NFL from a Giants fan perspective, evolve into what it is. You know, back then they were cheering when the snapper for a punt would make a good snap. You know, they didn’t know. And now they kind of know the rules. You know, it’s pretty cool to see it all evolve, but I would say Dallas is one of my favorite places to go. The barbecue, the stadium is incredible. I just don’t like the team.

Ruback as the passionate and diehard fan that he is, has high expectations for the team. He strongly felt this revamped Giants team is winning the Super Bowl. Even going to the Super Bowl might be a stretch, but this new look Giants defensive line will be the best since their Super Bowl winning days.

Tommy Cutlets

Last season, DeVito became a household name, especially for Italians as he would often do the infamous hand signal. He also, like many Italians is a huge fan of chicken cutlets. Many people have called him “Tommy Cutlets” before and have Tommy cutlets merchandise. One of the young kids even brought homemade chicken cutlets to Tommy and posed for a picture. Tommy’s mom was hysterically laughing when she saw what happened.

Love Island QB Bonding

James Esposito, one of the credentialed media members, gave DeVito a custom Love Island t-shirt with him and teammate Jaxson Dart on it. The two have publicly mentioned their love for the hit reality show and how they watch it together.
