Brooklyn Nets: Who’s Playing and Who’s Not?

Now only 17 days out from the NBA restart, one of the most ill-equipped teams going to Orlando to compete is the Brooklyn Nets. As of now, seven players have chosen to sit out for a variety of reasons, in addition to injury.

With so much going on in the world from COVID-19 to social injustice and injuries that has led to the following players not joining their teammates in the NBA bubble: Kyrie Irving (shoulder), Kevin Durant (Achilles), Spencer Dinwiddie (COVID-19), Nicolas Claxton (shoulder), DeAndre Jordan (COVID-19), Taurean Prince (COVID-19) and Wilson Chandler (COVID-19 concern).

As we know, Durant and Irving have dealt with injuries all season. Durant has been rehabbing a torn Achilles since last June, and Irving has been in and out of the lineup this year playing only 20 games out of a possible 64 games. Back in March he had an arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder, which reportedly should be healed up by the time the NBA resumes, but the team is playing it safe by saving him for the 2020-21 season. Brooklyn is doing the same with Durant who tore his Achilles 13 months ago. Similar to Irving’s surgery, Claxton had an arthroscopic surgery as well and is expected to be ready to go for training camp.

In recent weeks Dinwiddie, Jordan and Prince have tested positive for the Coronavirus, with Dinwiddie documenting his very serious symptoms. One of the symptoms the Nets’ leading scorer this season experienced was dizziness after exercising. Jordan and Prince have not reported any symptoms thus far.

Wilson Chandler so far is the only one who is sitting out the restart solely out of concern.

“As difficult as it will be to not be with my teammates, the health and well-being of my family has to come first,” said Chandler. “Thank you to the Nets organization for understanding and supporting me in this decision, and I will be watching and rooting for our team in Orlando.”

Chandler signed a one-year deal with the Nets last summer, so effectively he is a free agent now.

As a result of all this, the current Brooklyn Nets roster that will be competing in Orlando includes the following: Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris, Justin Anderson, Michael Beasley, Jamal Crawford, Chris Chiozza, Donta Hall, Tyler Johnson, Rodions Kurucs, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, Jeremiah Martin, Dzanan Musa and Garrett Temple.

They’re going into the bubble with the 7th seed in the East at 30-34.
