Brett Brown out as Coach of the Philadelphia 76ers

After seven years and several playoff trips, the 76ers fired head coach Brett Brown on Monday. Coming off the heels of a sweep courtesy of the Boston Celtics, the Sixers’ decision comes in response to their second disappointing playoff exit in as many years.

Brown is one of the last remnants of the Process, and though he compiled over 200 wins in his time in Philadelphia, he seemed to lose the admiration of the locker room as the season progressed. After their final loss to the Celtics, Josh Richardson noted the team’s lack of accountability and Joel Embiid lambasted the club’s absence of an identity on either side of the ball.

Nevertheless, Brown’s departure from the organization seemed to be an amicable one. In a statement released this morning, General Manager Elton Brand noted his “tremendous level of respect for Brett both personally and professionally and [appreciation for] all he’s done for the 76ers organization and the City of Philadelphia,”

The Sixers will look for a head coach with their sights set on a trip to the NBA Finals. The team is rumored to be interested in Tyronn Lue, though time will tell who the Sixers choose to maximize the potential of the Embiid-Ben Simmons pairing.
