Overview
Christian Jones has been a steady riser throughout the college football season and the pre-draft process. However, with a logjam at the offensive tackle position, it’ll be difficult for him to rise enough to get a sizable payday.
At 6’5” with 34-inch arms, Christian Jones is a good size and length. Because of this, he does a good job getting his hands on first and maintaining a firm grip throughout each rep. Having good upper body strength, Jones is also able to consistently lock out his arms once he establishes his grip. Despite his size, Jones plays pretty light on his feet as seen in his movements as he works downfield.
However, he has difficulty keeping his body under control as he approaches later-level defenders. In the events where he’s beaten or notices he took an incorrect angle, Jones will lunge, grab, and hug to regain control of a situation. Lastly, Jones also finds himself experiencing some trouble against speed rushers.
On the surface, Jones has the size and length that coaches love in their offensive tackles. But, the work that still needs to be put in could be enough to deter teams from passing on him in the first couple of rounds.
My Two Cents
While Texas’ offensive playmakers get all the hype, you have players like Christian Jones who do the little things that make their offense work. Jones isn’t someone who will transcend an offensive line, but he could be the missing piece to a unit that has everything else figured out.
