First round pick Johnathan Abram tore his rotator cuff and labrum in the first quarter of Monday’s game. Abram played out the final three quarters of Oakland’s 24-16 win over Denver. Abram is having surgery this week and will likely be out for the remainder of the season.
Abram, a Mississippi State product, was selected 27th overall by the Raiders in this past draft. Oakland used one of their three first round selections on him. He is a hard hitting, ball hawk safety who was going to help this Oakland defense take the next step this year. Oakland ranked dead last in 2018 on defense.
Abram showed us a glimpse in Monday’s game of what he can be in this league. It is very impressive as he played with a torn shoulder, and we didn’t even know it.He was blitzing and flying around the field all night. He finished with 1 solo tackle and 4 assisted tackles. It is a shame that his rookie season will be short lived. Stay tuned for the latest news on Oakland’s safety.
