New York Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman met with the media this morning to discuss the off season, training camp, Daniel Jones and much more.
Here are some Highlights:
– Gettleman sees Giants as a young, developing team. He’s sold on Daniel Jones as franchise QB.
-Feel s that Jones is gonna be a fine NFL QB but needs to work on the fumbling issues.
-With new coach, 3 years of roster development, young QB, stud RB and O-line w/right guys in place, Giants finally headed in right direction
-Gettleman referred to this year’s team as the Fighting Joe Judges and stated “It’s going to go well.”
-Gettleman was asked about the arrests of DeAndre Baker and Aldrick Rosas this offseason. Says it’s “disappointing … but it’s life.”
-Gettleman on Team Progressing: We’re getting there and I believe we’re going to be competitive.” “the closest we’ve ever been” to having the offensive line fixed. Believes they have the right players, talent-wise, and they just have to learn how to play together.
-Gettleman is very happy with the #NYGiants safety group. Notes that it’s unfortunate Xavier McKinney got hurt, “but we fixed that” with Logan Ryan signing.
HALAPIO RETURNS; GIANTS SIGNED HOLTON
Jon Halapio, who earned the starting center job in each of the previous two training camps and started 15 games last season, was re-signed as a free agent. He becomes a contender at that position, where coach Joe Judge has called the contest between Spencer Pulley and Nick Gates even. The versatile Gates might also receive reps at tackle. And Halapio started six games at right guard in 2017.
The team also signed Travis Holton. Holton is 6-3 and 190 pounds, spent his first three NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders and last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has played in 48 regular-season games with four starts and has 14 receptions for 273 yards and three touchdowns. Holton also played in one postseason game for the Raiders.
