Wrestling Weekly Update: AEW Leads with Heart, WWE Builds for a Blockbuster SummerSlam Weekend

The final days of July have delivered one of the busiest news cycles of the year in professional wrestling. From All Elite Wrestling announcing one of the most meaningful television specials in company history to WWE rolling out new fan initiatives ahead of SummerSlam, promotions across the industry continue to look for new ways to connect with audiences both inside and outside the ring.

Meanwhile, TNA made a surprising roster move, Mattel expanded its partnership with Lucha Libre AAA, and SiriusXM officially launched its long-awaited WWE Radio channel.

Here’s everything you need to know.

AEW Announces ‘Rebel Heart Dynamite’ to Honor Rebel and Support ALS Research

The biggest story of the week came from All Elite Wrestling, which announced that AEW Rebel Heart Dynamite will air live on Wednesday, September 9, from Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia.

Rather than simply presenting another episode of Dynamite, AEW is dedicating the entire evening to honoring longtime AEW personality Rebel (Tanea Brooks) following her ALS diagnosis earlier this year.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser benefiting I AM ALS and Team Gleason, two organizations that continue to lead the fight against ALS through research, advocacy, patient care and technological support.

AEW CEO Tony Khan described the event as an opportunity to celebrate Rebel while also raising awareness for a disease that continues to impact countless families around the world.

Fans attending the show will receive a limited-edition Upper Deck Rebel trading card sheet while supplies last, and Rebel herself is scheduled to make a special appearance.

In addition to donations generated through the event, AEW has already launched exclusive Rebel Heart merchandise, with 100 percent of profits from specially designed shirts and bracelets going directly toward the ALS organizations.

The event also shines a spotlight on the University of Georgia’s Regenerative Bioscience Center, whose researchers continue developing potential therapies for ALS.

Professional wrestling has always rallied around members of its community during difficult times, and this show feels like another example of an entire industry coming together for something bigger than wins and losses.

WWE and ESPN Ready for SummerSlam Weekend

While AEW looks toward September, WWE’s attention is firmly focused on SummerSlam.

The two-night premium live event streams August 1 and 2 exclusively on the ESPN App for subscribers with an ESPN Unlimited plan.

Both nights begin at 6 p.m. ET from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The announced lineup includes several marquee attractions:

  • Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship
  • CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell

ESPN is treating SummerSlam like one of its signature sporting events.

Coverage throughout the week will include appearances across SportsCenter, First Take, Get Up, Unsportsmanlike and numerous digital platforms. Countdown to SummerSlam will air both afternoons before the premium live event, while post-show coverage will immediately follow each night’s action.

For WWE, the partnership continues to demonstrate how deeply integrated the company has become within ESPN’s overall sports programming.

Danhausen Brings “Very Nice, Very Evil” to Minneapolis

One of the more creative promotions surrounding SummerSlam belongs to Danhausen.

Beginning July 30 and continuing through August 2, ESPN will launch the “Very Nice, Very Evil” SummerSlam Freeze Tour, featuring a roaming Danhausen-themed popsicle truck traveling throughout Minneapolis.

Complete with a giant sculpture of Danhausen’s face, the truck will offer fans two frozen treats:

  • Very Nice — Lemonade Popsicle
  • Very Evil — Mango Tajín Popsicle

The truck will also feature giveaways, interactive photo opportunities and other surprises while making stops throughout downtown Minneapolis, the Convention Center and U.S. Bank Stadium area.

It is exactly the type of outside-the-box promotion that fits Danhausen’s personality while creating memorable fan experiences leading into WWE’s biggest event of the summer.

WWE Launches Club WWE Membership Program

WWE also announced the launch of Club WWE, a new premium membership experience designed for its most dedicated fans.

Available beginning July 31, the annual membership costs $99 per year and includes:

  • Early access to tickets
  • Exclusive WWE Shop merchandise
  • Members-only lounges at select events
  • Premium digital content
  • Live match chats during WWE programming
  • A rewards program for purchases and fan engagement

The first Founding Members will also receive a premium welcome package featuring a match-used ring canvas and a personal note from John Cena.

Club WWE represents another step in WWE’s effort to create a year-round ecosystem where fans can interact with the brand beyond weekly television and premium live events.

As more entertainment companies move toward membership-based experiences, WWE appears intent on making its fan loyalty program one of the industry’s most comprehensive offerings.

SiriusXM Officially Launches WWE Radio

After months of anticipation, WWE Radio officially launched this week on SiriusXM Channel 156.

The 24-hour channel combines live Premium Live Event broadcasts with SiriusXM’s established wrestling programming.

Listeners will hear:

  • Busted Open
  • Notsam Wrestling Live
  • Cheap Heat Live
  • Off the Ropes
  • Busted Open After Dark

The channel will also feature WWE-produced podcasts hosted by:

  • Cody Rhodes
  • The Undertaker
  • Stephanie McMahon
  • Sam Roberts and Megan Morant

SummerSlam marks the channel’s first major live event, with Vic Joseph and Booker T providing play-by-play coverage from Minneapolis.

For wrestling fans who consume the product while driving or working, WWE Radio fills a niche that has largely been missing from the industry.

TNA Parts Ways with Victoria Crawford

TNA Wrestling quietly announced the immediate release of Victoria Crawford.

The company offered its standard statement, wishing Crawford the best in her future endeavors.

No additional details regarding the decision were provided.

Given wrestling’s constantly evolving free-agent landscape, it will be interesting to see where Crawford lands next.

Mattel Expands into AAA

Mattel and WWE announced a significant licensing agreement that will bring Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide action figures to collectors beginning in Fall 2027.

The line will feature several of AAA’s most recognizable stars, including:

  • Psycho Clown
  • El Hijo del Vikingo
  • La Parka
  • Mr. Iguana

The announcement further strengthens Mattel’s already successful relationship with WWE while giving lucha libre fans officially licensed collectibles on a global scale.

Considering AAA’s increased international exposure since WWE’s acquisition of the promotion, the timing makes perfect sense.

Final Thoughts

This week showcased two very different but equally effective approaches to growing professional wrestling.

AEW’s announcement of Rebel Heart Dynamite reminds fans that wrestling can be a powerful platform for compassion, awareness and community. While the event will undoubtedly feature exciting in-ring action, its true purpose extends far beyond the ring as it raises support for ALS research and honors one of AEW’s own.

At the same time, WWE continues expanding its reach off-screen. Whether it’s launching Club WWE, partnering with ESPN for expanded SummerSlam coverage, creating immersive fan activations with Danhausen, or introducing WWE Radio on SiriusXM, the company is investing heavily in how fans experience the product beyond Monday and Friday nights.

Elsewhere, Mattel’s expansion into AAA collectibles highlights WWE’s growing international ambitions, while TNA’s roster changes serve as another reminder of how quickly the wrestling landscape can evolve.

As SummerSlam weekend approaches and AEW builds toward All In and Rebel Heart Dynamite, the second half of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest and most significant stretches professional wrestling has seen in years.
