A Magical Maverick Christmas

The Dallas Mavericks have been spreading holiday cheer all over North Texas through the month of December. Saying that the Mavs Care (their aptly named community outreach program) is definitely an understatement. Check out some of the magnificent things that Mavs did to give back to the community during the holiday season.

Dallas Mavericks Hosted Dinner with Santa

On December 6th the Mavericks invited over 50 at-risk kids and hosted dinner in their practice facility. The facility was transformed into a winter wonderland with an abundance of presents and Christmas trees. The children enjoyed dinner and cookies served by the Mavericks themselves! After dinner the children and the Mavs gathered by the tree as Santa read them a story. By the end of the night the entire team played basketball with the kids and helped them put together their new toys. “We are more than basketball players,” said Kleber. “This organization is more than a basketball team, we give back to the community. On days like today, the kids will remember this for the rest of their lives and I feel very proud as a player to be apart of this.”

Holiday Hospital Visit

December 10th  Mark Cuban, Ryan Broekhoff, Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber, and Dwight Powell visited the Children’s Health Hospital. The Mavs and Mark Cuban went door to door visiting children and spreading holiday cheer!

Winter Warm-Up With JJ Barera

JJ Barea kicked off the Winter Warm-Up at Raising Canes December 10th and invited fans to stop by and donate winter items such as coats and blankets. All donations were donated to the North Texas homeless shelters just in time for the holidays. Barera made two Raising Cane stops in Dallas and even surprised fans at the drive through window.

Dwight Powell and Mark Cuban Payaway  Layaway

December 16th  Dwight Powell paid away the remaining layaway balances for some families at a Walmart in Dallas. “I am very proud to be a Maverick,” said Powell. “Because of things like this that we are able to do for the community.” Again on December 23rd only one day before Christmas Eve, Mark Cuban and Powell stopped at a Burlington Coat Factory and paid away layaway for a handful of families. “They are the reason why I get to play basketball,” said Powell. “They are the reason my teammates and our league is so successful, because of the support from the community.”

Not only do the Mavericks do great things together on the court but also off the court! Being able to witness the joy the Mavericks brought to people for the holidays has been a real treat!
