SAQUON UPDATE:
Saquon Barkley will be out of action for the next four to eight weeks with a high ankle sprain. That is the official part of the update on Barkley.
Barkley was examined yesterday by Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisc. Barkley saw Dr. Martin O’Malley on Monday, one day after he suffered the first significant injury of his career.
Wayne Gallman will step in to the starting running back position to fill in for Barkley. This will be Gallman’s first pro start and Offensive Coordinator Mike Shula stated that the scheme stays the same.
“We are still going to run our stuff” Says Shula. “Wayne runs the ball differently than Saquon, but we still have our things that we want to hang our hat on. Then we’ll tweak them week to week based on personnel or based on the defense we are playing. We feel like we want to try to have good balance each and every week and do the things that keep you out of long-yardage situations, and then obviously get the ball in the end zone when you get close to the goal line.”
Gallman was asked during the week if he is ready for the opportunity to be the starter, a challenge he has wanted for a long time.
“I have been preparing for three years for it. I was with Shane and Orleans and we split time together. Last year was big for me, a big learning experience, learning my role in the offense behind Saquon. Now, just taking what I’ve learned, I get to go out there and run the ball a couple times.”
OGELTREE ON HIS INJURY:
Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree injured his hamstring last week returning an apparent fumble on a play that ended up not counting.
“That’s pretty terrible. It definitely sucks to get hurt on a play… to get hurt, period. But when it doesn’t count for anything, it definitely stings a little bit more,” he said.
PEPPERS MIMICKING COLLINS
Jabrill Peppers met with the media and was asked if he watched any film on Landon Collins to help understand James Betcher’s Defense.
“I had to because I play that position” said Peppers. “But I watch a lot of guys, I’m moving around a lot back there. The more I become familiar with this defense and the more everyone becomes familiar with it, we can be interchangeable. One guy’s here, one guy’s here, we’re all on the field, we’re all playing different positions, so I definitely had to watch him, and also a couple other guys.
Peppers also discussed having to start making big plays. ” I’m very hungry, but one of my problems was trying to force, trying to do too much, instead of letting the game come to me and letting things happen for me naturally, instead of pressing the issue. I want to make those splash plays, but I’m not going to be pressed and try to do more than what I’m asked to do, because then I’m going to get out of position a lot and things like that. So, I’m just going to let them come to me.”
