The XFL has made their first big splash before their upcoming inaugural season. They have signed former Steeler and Oklahoma Sooner quarterback Landry Jones. Jones will be playing for one of the eight XFL teams come February. “I’m looking forward to joining the XFL and playing the game I love,” said Jones. “I can’t wait to suit-up.”
“We’re excited to welcome Landry to the XFL as our first player and first quarterback,” said XFL Commissioner and CEO, Oliver Luck. “He’s an accomplished athlete with outstanding college credentials and pro experience, and his heart and desire to play football epitomizes the type of individual we want in the XFL.”
Landry Jones spent 6 seasons in the NFL. He played for the Steelers, Raiders, and Jaguars. He is more widely known for his stellar collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma. He played there from 2009-2012. He set Big 12 conference records for passing yards (16,646), touchdown passes (123), and completions (1,388).
The XFL will sign seven other quarterbacks before the draft which will be held in October. Each head coach will select their quarterback just prior to the draft. More details about the draft will be given out at a later date.
