It’s just Week 1

Now, I’d like to gently remind everyone that it’s just week one of the college football season. Anything is possible. For example, Florida State’s loss in week 0 to Georgia Tech sees them not make my list this week. Simply put, they should have won that game. Their lack of a passing attack is concerning.

As for the teams that did make the list, many teams are intriguing as championship contenders. Anyone from the top 8 could be a contender. However, we will know this week whether teams like Notre Dame can travel into College Station and beat Texas A&M. I’ll be watching that game closely as the result will directly affect the top 25.

Many teams have great potential

I have some teams ranked a bit higher because I love the potential there this season. Ole Miss has a lot going for them and Jaxson Dart returning only helps them. Miami acquired Cam Ward via the transfer portal in the offseason and his arrival has Hurricane fans optimistic for a good year. I would not be surprised to see either Ole Miss or Miami in the playoffs come the end of the year.

Some other notables on the list are Arizona, who lost their Head Coach after one of their best seasons in a long time. While a majority of the roster is still there, how does Brent Brennan fair? Having the combo of Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan should help Brennan win plenty of games this year. NC State has been excellent this decade having over 8 wins in every season since 2020. I don’t expect that to change. Oklahoma State gets in there and should stay if they feed Ollie Gordon the ball. Finally, I snuck Iowa in there, that defense is just too good not to be mentioned. If their offense improved even just a little bit, this team would go far.

Check back every Thursday for HollyWood’s NCAA Top 25!

With my week 1 ranking now set, it will be very interesting to see how things move throughout the season. Week 1 is sure to see a ton of movement, so expect a fresh list come next Thursday. The season officially kicks off for many teams tonight! Which games will you have your eyes on?
