How High is Sharaputdin’s Ceiling?

Whenever you hear of a fighter coming out of Dagestan, Russia, many immediately react that the fighter is just another wrestler who trains with Khabib. But that isn’t the case with this one-eyed Dagestanian. In 2016, Shara “Bullet” Magomedov suffered an eye injury during one of his fights. With this injury, getting sanctioned to fight in the USA will be hard. That’s why we fans only see him fight when the UFC goes to Abu Dhabi or Saudi Arabia for now. But now, after three straight wins in the UFC and becoming a favorite across the MMA community, the question is, how high is Sharaputdin’s ceiling?

Sharaputdin’s Ceiling?

After his win on Saturday on short notice against Michael Olkekiejczuk, Now ranked 20th in the Middleweight division, Sharas’s striking keeps improving every fight. Still, he needs to keep working on his takedown and striking defense. With one eye to work with, he continues to go against better competition. His opponents will be looking to damage his one good eye. Not only will his future opponents target him while the fight is standing, but the higher completion, especially in the top 20, will know how to go for takedowns and look for ground strikes as well. Sharaputdin’s ceiling in the UFC can be in the top 15 in the middleweight division if he can upgrade certain parts of his game. His striking game is solid, but improving his takedown defense and ground game could elevate him to the next level. Which would help secure a spot among the top fighters in the division.

Conclusion

Shara said in a post-fight interview that his contract ran out and that he hopes the UFC will resign him. They most likely will since he’s 3-0 in the UFC and is becoming a fan favorite now. The 30-year-old one-eyed phenom is quickly approaching the top 15 in the middleweight division and should have more exciting fights soon. If he makes some adjustments, his talent should be able to crack into the top 10. For more articles, check out these articles here.
