Neil Magny’s Kindness Shouldn’t Limit Him

Win or lose, Neil Magny is a class act and he proved that once again Saturday night. His kindness and lack of trash talk shouldn’t limit his opportunities though.

Unfortunately, fighters who are willing to bad-mouth their competitors often get rewarded with bigger fights. Neil Magny deserves credit for never wavering from his authentic self.

We’ve seen countless fighters over the years use their mouths to get them fights rather than their game itself, (i.e., Chael Sonnen, Kevin Lee, Colby Covington, etc).

I’m not saying that it’s not a smart move to talk your way up the ladder as much as possible in order to make as much money as possible, but fighters like Magny who refuse to go that route deserve credit.

What ‘The Haitian Sensation’ did to Robbie Lawler over the weekend was nothing short of dominant. It wasn’t the most entertaining performance, but he was in complete control the entire time against a former champ.

After dismantling a future UFC Hall of Famer, Magny kept it classy as always.

“It’s definitely a feather in the cap beating a legend like Robbie Lawler,” Magny told Paul Felder. “This guy’s done amazing things in this sport throughout his time here, and it was an honor to go in there and face him tonight.”

Saturday’s victory was Magny’s third of 2020 and he hopes to keep the momentum rolling against a top-10 opponent.

“I definitely think this a top-10 performance to get me a top-10 opponent before the year’s over and keep the momentum rolling towards a title shot going into 2021. It’s one of those weird things in MMA right now… everyone feels entitled to fight certain people, but I honestly do not care.”

The highlighted part above is Magny acknowledging the fact that many times actions outside the octagon help guys get fights.

Magny’s resume continues to build and it’s becoming more and more difficult to ignore his consistency. Since taking some time off following the loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio, Magny has executed effective game-plans each time out, and it’s proven to yield success.

A guy like Geoff Neal or Michael Chiesa would make a lot of sense for Magny’s next step towards contender-ship.

Neil Magny does not receive the proper recognition as being one of the most victorious welterweights in the history of the UFC. A large reason for that is his unwillingness to talk trash.

It’s business only for ‘The Haitian Sensation’; always has and always will be.
