Djokovic’s Latest Scheme

Novak Djokovic, the tennis legend who has been vocal on his frustration with health regulations, has thrown himself into the headlines once again. With his latest aggravating scheme, he has decided to withdraw from the Association of Tennis Professionals and build his own tennis empire.

He has also managed to get others to join in – Vasek Pospisil and John Isner – and all three recently went public with their pink slips.

So many questions come to mind with such a radical development. What will this new group do differently? Who else will join this new path for tennis? Most importantly of all: what does this group plan to accomplish?

The brand-new group will go by the name of the PTPA, the Professional Tennis Players Association, and has potential to be a tennis union. Minimal other information is currently available aside from vague tweets alluding to “a self-governance structure” and being “directly responsive” to player input on decisions.

Although it may sound good on paper, this group does not appear to be formed from the best of intentions. Considering Novak Djokovic’s involvement in the matter, it appears this outrage and desire to resign has been pushed mainly by players growing tired of pandemic health regulations. Simply put, this “union” could very well just be a place for players to find loopholes in safety.

However, with developments still being brand-new, skepticism will have to wait as well. Hopefully these players will use their powers for good rather than expected, negligent evil.
