Overview

Joe Alt has been one of the most anticipated offensive line prospects for the 2024 NFL Draft the past few years. While he may not have started this draft season as this year’s OT1, many believe he has now taken that spot from Olu Fashanu.

Weighing in over 300 pounds and well over six feet tall, Joe Alt is a massive human being. With this being said, Alt is still arguably the best athlete amongst this year’s OTs. When operating in the open field Alt is fluid in every way as displayed when asked to pull around the offensive line and work downfield on screens. Thanks to his length, Alt is phenomenal at getting hands on first but does a very good job resetting when needed. Despite his height, Alt is also great at maintaining good pad height which allows him to maintain proper leverage throughout each play.

However, Alt gets away with a lot due to his size, length, strength, and athleticism. Often times, Alt’s footwork is more reminiscent of an OG’s the way his heels click. This was exacerbated against Ohio State’s excellent defensive line. Because of this Alt is susceptible to overreaching when blocking as he sometimes finds trouble against linemen with good secondary moves.

Despite where he needs to improve, OT prospects like Alt don’t come often. His combination of size, length, strength, athleticism, and experience are rare. It’s safe to say that Joe Alt is a top-10 lock who could go as high as four to the Cardinals or five to the Chargers.

My Two Cents

After watching his tape, I still have Olu Fashanu as my OT1. Nothing against Alt since I still believe he’ll be a franchise player at tackle, but I believe Fashanu is more refined than the Notre Dame product. Still, Joe Alt should be a household name in an organization for a long time.
