Overview

After a film study on Alabama LG Tyler Booker, it’s clear why many have him as this year’s IOL1. Not often does someone as young as he come into a starting role in the SEC and dominate. Yet, this is what Booker’s done the past few seasons as he now looks to continue this success in the NFL.

At 6’5” and 325lbs, Tyler Booker is a thick individual. But as dense as he is, his athleticism gives him an advantage over your average defensive tackle. Pair this with his strength, and he’s virtually unbeatable. Besides this, Booker displays a good pop-out of his stance post-snap. This is evident as he explodes off the ball when run-blocking and is quick to move when he pulls. In pass protection, his core strength allows him to stay flexible and maintain leverage, while his upper body strength allows him to lock out and easily settle down. In the end, Booker has a good amount of starting experience and shows an impressive amount of intelligence for someone who’s a true junior. He has a tremendously high floor and is only continuing to improve.

When it comes to where Booker can improve, there honestly isn’t much. Yes, he is a young prospect who still has plenty to learn. But what he has to learn pretty much only comes with experience. Nevertheless, there are times when fatigue and complacency take the better of Booker. When this happens, he relies too much on his natural abilities instead of his technique and fundamentals. Even though his natural abilities are partially what’s gotten him this far, Booker is a generational talent that could be a household name should he not get complacent.

My Two Cents

It’s obvious why many have Tyler Booker as this year’s IOL1. He has the build, experience, strength, youth, and intelligence that coaches dream of in prospects. To me, Booker is easily a first-round pick. To be fair, he’s well deserving of being a top-10 pick. Unfortunately for Booker, it might not play out this way depending on how certain positions are prioritized this go-around. Nevertheless, don’t expect Booker to stay on the board long come draft night.
