The 2025 CDL League Championship weekend is here!
It’s been a whirlwind of a CDL season, and now it’s time to close out the BO6 era. Championship weekend is here, and there will be plenty of exciting moments to look forward to. With the Championship coming right up, here are my predictions for Championship weekend.
Biggest Surprise- Carolina Royal Ravens
Carolina had high expectations coming into this CDL season, but they did not have an impressive second half of the season. There’s a lot of work to be done for them, especially in LAN, but I think they could pull off an upset or two and surprise a lot of people. However, things could start rough with a series against Toronto, whom they are 1-3 against this season. I’ll have my eyes on the Ravens to make some noise, but only if they can get past Ultra.
Biggest Letdown- Optic Texas
It’s been a rough year for the reigning CDL champions, and it’s hard to see this playoff push being any different. With numerous roster changes and just flat-out poor play, this team has struggled mightily this season. Most would expect Optic to come out swinging and at least win their first series, that is, until you see who they play. Thanks to the rough regular season, Optic drew Faze for round one of this year’s postseason. Not exactly ideal for the reigning champs, considering they have yet to beat Faze this season. More than likely, Optic will need to make a losers bracket run, but I don’t think they’ll get too far. It’ll be a short weekend for the reigning champions.
Weekend MVP- Faze Simp
Simp has had himself a good season, ranking inside the top ten in K/D and the top five for S&D K/D. He’s had some fantastic moments this year, but has faltered slightly against the likes of Thieves. Simp needs to come out of the first two series playing consistently, Faze will make a deep run, and his opportunities to shine will come in the later series. I fully expect to see at least one unreal moment out of Simp this weekend, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he helps elevate Faze to 2025 Champs.
Overall Champs- Atlanta Faze
Faze has been great this year, but they have been the second fiddle since Major III to L.A. Thieves. Faze took the first two majors, and Thieves have taken the last two. Each has beaten the other in a Major Grand Finals once this season. They are one and two on almost every team stat in the CDL, except hardpoint stats, where Faze has lacked. Faze will need to pull out a couple of hardpoints they would have lost in the regular season. As stated prior, I think Simp will shine in the late series, and I think he has a defining moment here to help send Faze to the promised land. I believe Faze will be your 2025 CDL Champions.
