The Cure for the NFL Offseason

With only one NFL game remaining between today and September, fans would usually be preparing for a long and painful football drought. Thankfully, only one week after the Super Bowl, the rejuvenated Xtreme Football League (XFL) kicks off.

The D.C. Defenders are one of eight teams that make up the new league, and on February 8th, they will kickoff the season at home against the Seattle Dragons.

The league allows a second chance to a number of players who just missed the NFL mark, giving these players a chance to prove their athletic ability on a nationally televised platform.

The roster includes former standouts such as QB Cardale Jones (Ohio State, Los Angeles Chargers), WR Rashard Davis (James Madison, Tennessee Titans), and former Baltimore Ravens first round pick S Matt Elam (University of Florida).

The XFL Website points out that 57 of the 70 players on the Defenders have prior NFL experience. Many players across the XFL were on NFL teams this past season.

The new XFL is looking to cut out many of the new rules that the NFL has enacted surrounding safety in the last few offseasons. The league looks to be entertaining over everything, and how could you expect anything else from the mind of Vince McMahon?

Tune in Next Sunday, February 8th 2:00 p.m. est on ABC Network.
