Game 1: October 22, 2024

New York Knicks at Boston Celtics

Final Score: BOS 132- NYK 109

Things certainly did not go the way the New York Knicks expected on opening night in the TD Garden against the defending champions. The team was blown out by the Boston Celtics in an unexpected way. This win over New York sent a message to the entire league. The statement was Boston is hungry for another title. There were other things that contributed to New York’s blowout loss. The defense was one of them. New York almost allowed the Celtics to set a three-pointer record. For the entire game, Boston made 29 three-pointers. Unfortunately, the Celtics fell short of reaching the record.

Then there was the offense. It was a very cold night for the Knicks offense, indeed. Newly acquired Mikal Bridges struggled in his debut in a Knicks uniform. It was his jump shots that were an issue for the night. He went 2 for 7 from the three-point line. Overall, he finished the night 7 of 13 from the field. New York hopes he can make adjustments to his jump shots as they get through the season.

Things looked so much better for the Knicks in their home opener victory against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Karl- Anthony Towns look much terrific in his second game in Knicks uniform. He took control of the entire game with a double-double. He capped a 27-10 run to end the second quarter and gave the team a 61-45 halftime lead with a triple with just 4.5 seconds left. But he isn’t the only one to guide the team. Star Jalen Brunson also led the way with 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists. This win was a great way to avenge their Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Pacers from last year.
