Following a disappointing playoff exit, the offseason has arrived for the New York Knicks. It couldn’t have come at a better time to change its coaching staff. Just recently, New York fired its coach, Tom Thibodeau. This was a questionable move, to begin with. After all, Thibodeau was well-liked in the locker room, especially by players like Jalen Brunson. Now, the team will begin its search for a new head coach. Some names to watch include Jason Kidd, Michael Malone, Jay Wright, and Johnnie Bryant. This offseason would be interesting for the Knicks as it gets underway.
Improving The Bench
If there’s one area of weakness that needs to be addressed, it’s the bench. New York doesn’t have enough depth at the moment. The lack of depth was one of the biggest reasons New York couldn’t stand a chance against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The only bench players the Knicks currently have are Cam Payne, Landry Shamet, and Delon Wright. New York traded most of its depth for players like Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges. It’s up to Leon Rose to find some pieces to improve the bench, whether through trades or free agency.
Adding Another Star

Could the Knicks envision themselves adding another star to their roster? Considering all the draft capital and assets they have given up for other talent, such as Towns and Bridges, it would be hard to see the team adding another star. If there’s one star they could target this offseason, it’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 30-year-old superstar has been linked to the Knicks multiple times this offseason. He brings a championship pedigree – something this team could use as it looks to take its next step towards a title.
If trade talks fail to happen, New York could also possibly target someone like Kevin Durant. However, it is important to note that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard news about them landing the two-time NBA champion. The Knicks did try to lure Durant from the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster trade back in February. Unfortunately, the efforts were unsuccessful. They still have another chance to re-engage with the Suns about Durant this upcoming offseason. However, to get a talented star like Durant, New York would have to offer Phoenix a deal that they can’t refuse. One idea would be to part ways with Karl-Anthony Towns. Getting someone like Towns for Phoenix would be considered a perfect fit. The Suns do indeed need another center. Towns is the guy who could perfectly fit that position.
