Could Chennedy Carter be the Rookie of the Year?

This year’s WNBA Draft was the highest rated since 2004. Also, the WNBA’s opening game day rating increased 20 percent from the year prior. WNBA fans were elated to see if Sabrina Ionescu could transfer her collegiate talent to the WNBA.

Sadly, Ionescu suffered a Grade 3 sprain in her left ankle, however she should make the Finals. But Ionescu is not the only rookie breaking records.

Atlanta Dream guard Chennedy Carter is now the youngest WNBA player to score over 30 points. Carter hasn’t even played ten pro-games, but has earned titles. Her 35 points, three rebounds, and 7 assists against the Seattle Storm broke franchise rookie for top scoring of a rookie, topping Angel McCoughtry’s record. Additionally, Carter is the third Dream rookie to score over 30 points in a game.

When Carter was asked about her lessons as a pro-athlete, she stated, “I’ve learned that I’m the kid who never really got the credit. I’m just going to continue to play hard. It’s amazing to be in those (Rookie of the Year) conversations.”

Carter averaged 22.5 points her Texas A&M college career. As of last Saturday, Carter signed with The Fam Agency.

Sabrina Ionescu is still a contender for Rookie of the Year, especially if she could offensively drive the New York Liberty in the playoffs. As well as, Ionescu’s former Oregon teammate and Dallas Wings forward Satou Sabally is a prime contender for Rookie of the Year. The season has just started but the top draft picks have created names for themselves.
