Wilder vs Fury: Trilogy Awaits

In 2018 Tyson Fury made his boxing comeback as he went up against Deontay Wilder, who is famously known for his powerful punches. The fight ended in a controversial split draw, 114-112 for Fury, 115-111 Wilder and 113-113. Naturally, a rematch was bound to take place to settle the tie.

Again, Fury outboxed Wilder but this time around Wilder seemed to have no chance and seemed off balance and exhausted for the majority of the fight. After being knocked down in the third and fifth round, slipping two times, and constantly bleeding from his ear, Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the 7th round.

The Gypsy King became WBC heavyweight champion, once again. Fury defeated Wilder by a way of technical knockout. Saturday, February 20th became Wilder’s first loss in 44 fights.

“The king has returned,” Fury said. “I just want to say a big shout out to Deontay Wilder. He came here tonight, he manned up and he showed the heart of a champion. He is a warrior, he will be back and he will be a champion again.”

Wilder was visibly upset at his corner for throwing in the towel, despite the bad condition his body was in.

“Things like this happen. The best man won,” Wilder said. “My side threw in the towel, and you know I’m ready to go out on my shield.” “You know what I’m saying, I had a lot of things going on coming into this fight. But it is what it is. … I make no excuses tonight. I just wish my corner would have let me go out on my shield. I’m a warrior. It’s what I do.”

Except on Monday, Wilder claimed that the suit he wore walking up to the ring is what caused weakness in his legs before the fight and later stated that he will be exercising his rematch clause for a fight as soon as this summer.

“He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me,” Wilder told Yahoo Sports. “I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through. But I’m a warrior and people know that I’m a warrior. It could easily be told that I didn’t have legs or anything. A lot of people were telling me, ‘It looked like something was wrong with you.’ Something was, but when you’re in the ring, you have to bluff a lot of things. I tried my best to do so. I knew I didn’t have the legs because of my uniform.”

How will this third fight end? Fury beat Wilder Saturday night by TKO, and a lot of boxing fans would claim that Fury won the first fight in 2018 even though it ended as a draw. What will the third fight result in? Will there finally be a straight knockout? Or will a third fight be redundant and unnecessary at this point?
