Carmelo Anthony Could Return To Knicks Under New President Leon Rose

With the Knicks 17-42 on the year in 2019-20, clinching a losing record for the seventh straight season, fans might be feeling nostalgic about the Carmelo Anthony era in the Big Apple.

Good news for Knicks fans, there’s a chance they might see ‘Melo in orange and blue sometime soon.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported new Knicks president Leon Rose is “expected to be interested” in bringing Anthony back to the team this summer as a free agent.

Rose is set to officially take over as president on March 1. He’s established himself as one of the top agents in basketball for decades, with clients including Joel EmbiidChris PaulDevin BookerKarl-Anthony TownsCarmelo Anthony, and Kyle Kuzma. His previous clients included LeBron James and Allen Iverson.

Certainly, running the Knicks front office will be a new and unique challenge for the first time front office executive.

New York has made the postseason just three times in the last 15 seasons.

Anthony spent seven seasons with New York from 2011-17. Fans will remember arguably his most iconic performance in Gotham, a 62-point scoring explosion versus the Charlotte Bobcats on January 13, 2014.

He added 13 rebounds and zero turnovers that night. It set a Knicks’ franchise and Madison Square Garden scoring records.

After a year out of the league, Anthony signed a free-agent deal with the Portland Trail Blazers in November. It’s been a comeback season for ‘Melo, who is averaging 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 36% from downtown, his best since the 2013-14 season (40.2).
